The Bird Man

Orioles 2, Rays 1 (Game 1) : The Bird Man – Stevie Wilkerson hits a clutch 2-run homer to put the O’s ahead in the 7th to back a surprisingly great effort from the pitching staff as they hold to take the first game of a split doubleheader @ home. Recently acquired on July 6th, Aaron Brooks works 2 2/3 scoreless innings, but Jimmy Yacabonis relieves him in the 3rd & allows a solo homer to Mike Zunino (#5) – the 100th HR of his career, as Tampa Bay takes the lead. Shawn Armstrong comes on in the 6th but issues 2 walks & is relieved by Richard Bleier, who works an inning of scoreless relief. Wilkerson hits his clutch go ahead 2-run shot (#8) off of Rays reliever Colin Poche in the 7th to erase a great outing by Rays starter & 2 way player, Brendan McKay.
Mychal Gives works a 1-2-3 9th to close it out.
Baltimore earns it’s first win of the 2nd half, but still had 1 more to play in the nightcap.
