Flying South : The O’s extend their losing streak to 15 games in a row as they get swept for the 4th series in a row & run their mark to 1-15 on the season against the Rays.
Game 1 : Rays 9, Orioles 2 – Brandon Lowe goes deep twice & Brett Phillips hits an inside the park homer as the Rays rout the O’s to take the opener. Austin Meadows 2-run triple in the 4th to give the Rays the lead, Kevin Kiermaier & Brandon Lowe hit solo shots & Joey Wendle doubles home another run in a 3-run 5th against O’s starter Matt Harvey. Harvey, who came in 3-1 w/ an ERA of 1.65, goes 4 2/3 innings, gives up 5 runs on 5 hits, strikes out 6 & walks 1. Phillips legs out an inside the park homerun in the 6th & Lowe adds a 2-run shot in the 6th, his 2nd of the game & career high 28th to extend the lead in a 3-run 6th & Michael Brosseau drills a solo shot in the 7th. Baltimore has been outscored 113-36 during their 12 game losing streak.

Game 2 : Rays 10, Orioles 0 – Nelson Cruz homers twice & 3 pitchers combine on a 4-hitter as the Rays extend the O’s losing streak to 13 games & run their mark to 13-1 against the Birds on the season. The Rays score 3 in the 1st as Manuel Margot doubles home a run & scores on a 2-run blast by Mike Zunino (his 5th HR in as many games) in a 3-run 4th against O’s starter John Means. Tampa Bay scores 5 times in the 5th to knock Means from the game as Cruz hits a 3-run bomb, Brandon Lowe doubles in another & scores an error by Ramon Urias – Cruz goes deep for the 2nd time, drilling a 2-run shot in the 6th to cap the scoring for the Rays. Drew Rasmussen tosses 4 innings, allows just 1 hit, strikes out 3 & walks 1, Adam Conley goes 1 scoreless & Chris Ellis finishes it up, going 4 scoreless, allowing 3 hits, strikes out 7 & walks 1 to earn his first career win Tampa Bay has scored at least 9 runs 9 times & reached double digits 5 times in the season series. Game 3 : Rays 8, Orioles 4 – Ryan Yarbrough comes off the COVID-19 list & tosses 5 scoreless innings as the Rays extend the Orioles losing streak to 14 games in a row. The O’s score twice in the 1st as Cedric Mullins hits a solo shot & Pedro Severino singles home another against Tampa Bay opener Louis Head to give the O’s the early lead but the Rays quickly erase it as Ji-Man Choi singles home 2 to tie it in the bottom of the 1st, Brandon Lowe singles home a run & scores on a double by Wander Franco in the 4th, Nelson Cruz & Austin Meadows each add sacfly’s in a 3-run 6th. Yarbrough allows only 1 hit over his 5 innings of work, strikes out 3 & walks none. O’s starter Spenser Watkins goes 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits, he strikes out 2 & walks 2, losing his 5th straight start. Ryan Mountcastle hits a solo homer for the Orioles in the 8th for the O’s & Austin Meadows doubles home another in the bottom of the 8th as the Rays get the run right back. Game 4 : Rays 7, Orioles 2 – Brandon Lowe hits his career high 29th HR & Shane McClanahan pitches 5 innings to win his 4th straight start as the Rays finish off the sweep of the Orioles @ home. Austin Meadows walks w/ the bases loaded in the against O’s starter Jorge Lopez as the Rays score twice in the 1st & Lowe hits a 2-run shot in the 2nd, Meadows walks w/ the bases loaded again in the 4th & Ji-Man Choi singles home another to drive home his 2nd RBI of the day. McClanahan allows just 1 run on 5 hits in his 5 innings of work, he strikes out 8 & walks 1 to continue his winning streak. Richie Martin singles home a run in the 5th & Ramon Urias hits a solo shot in the 9th but the O’s can creep no closer & are swept away in St. Petersburg. Tampa Bay has won 11 of their last 14, & their magic number to eliminate the O’s is now 6. Lopez becomes the majors first 14 game loser & the Baltimore starters are 0-12 & have allowed 63 runs in 61 2/3 innings during their 15 game losing streak.
